Doctors perform TPIs to treat pain in the arms, legs, lower back, neck and can also be used to treat fibromyalgia, and tension headaches. TPIs treat tense muscle tissues (trigger points) that form when muscles do not relax due to pain. It involves injecting a steroid (plus anesthetic) directly into a trigger point within the muscle.
For short term pain relief, TENS applies electrical stimulation to reduce pain. Electrodes are positioned near the source of the pain on the skin and transmit signals to the brain to disrupt pain signals.
Physical Therapy is one of the most important tools in the multimodal approach to chronic pain treatment.
Occupational health is focused on the treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses.

These prescriptions can include muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety drugs (not benzodiazepines), antidepressants and powerful nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Additionally, other more effective painkillers may be used when it is safe and necessary. Injectable steroids can also be used where joints are involved.
